Making Root Beer! / 14-brewery Heather Lawver 6/10/2004
After we were all done making root beer, I ate a few ozzie rolls then Greg took me on a tour of the rest of the brewery, where he makes a wide variety of beers. I got to see a big silo outside for barley, but these two vats were my favorite. Apparently copper is traditional in a brewery, because it conducts heat so well. However, Greg told me that it was discovered that brewing in copper was actually rather dangerous as it seeped into the beer itself. So these vats, although they look like they're made out of copper for traditional decorative reasons, are actually made out of a much safer metal, then just covered in copper.
